So I am in San Francisco right now and the history of hippie culture is fascinating. The Summer of Love was a social phenomenon that occurred during the summer of 1967 , when as many as 100,000 people converged on the Haight-Ashbury neigbourhood of San Francisco, creating a cultural and political rebellion. While hippies also gathered elsewhere in US and Europe, San Francisco was the centre of the hippie revolution, a melting pot of music, psychoactive drugs, sexual freedom, creative expression, and politics. The Summer of Love became a defining moment of the 1960s, as the hippie counterculture movement came into public awareness.
So just remember to wear those flowers in your hair when going to San Francisco… We will forever be inspired by their style.
When you really think about it, every music festival is a bit of a hippie gathering – a quest for absolute freedom.
